Stardust Telepath Episode 5 – “Endless Dreamer”

The episode begins with Matataki getting yelled at by the teacher for coming to school on a motorcycle, with Matataki saying that Haruno told her not to be late and that she lives far from the school. After receiving a recap of the end of the last episode through Umika’s thoughts, we see a girl walk past Umika’s desk and use a modified version of the alien language greeting that Yu taught to the school. Umika struggled to respond, and while she was trying, the girl had already gone to greet Yu.

During the English period, Umika gets flustered when she’s asked to read a section in the story out loud. While Umika’s struggling, however, Yu answers with something not related to the current subject. At lunch, Yu tries to get Matataki to eat lunch with the gang, but Matataki ends up refusing. After school, Yu approaches Matataki again, which Matataki is taken aback by. After a comment from Umika, the gang has decided that their next step is to launch a rocket like the one Matataki launched in their earlier duel. Under the impression that the three were part of a club, Matataki asks them how much they have left in club funds.

This is where the gang tells Matataki that they pay for everything out of pocket, shocking Matataki, and causing her to show Umika what it would cost to do a proper rocket launch. So, to solve this little dilemma, Matataki takes the gang to the teachers’ office, where they get an application sheet for a new club. After taking the time to fill it out, they take it back to the teacher, who asks them questions which the girls then answer. The teacher said she’d do what she could to get it greenlit, having the girls then leave. While leaving, Matataki makes a comment to Umika about how she’s the president of the club, catching Umika off guard. Matataki also comments that school’s easier than she thought (because she just does whatever she wants during class), and tomorrow would be another day like it. And that’s when a big reveal is made…the class is going to a study camp!

The remainder of the episode is spent at the study camp. Umika collapses from exhaustion just by seeing the mountain, and a workshop is done. After a montage of events that happen during the camp, we get to have a nice wholesome moment with the gang during the night. After the credits, there is a short where Haruno grabs Matataki and Yu seems to be trying to get Matataki into a hug or connect foreheads for foreheadpathy…but the connection is made with Umika instead.

This was a fun little episode to watch. If the club is successfully made, then it could open up more story opportunities in the future. The study camp is a nice way to break up the currently established status quo, even if only by a little bit. Since the study camp wasn’t finished in one episode, it’ll be interesting to see where the story ends up going from here. The only way to find out what happens next is to wait for next week.
