Kill Blue Episode 2 – “Noren Mitsuoka”

I heavily enjoyed Episode 1 of Kill Blue, so I was excited to see whether or not Episode 2 would live up to my expectations. And…well, as a little trade off for being so in-depth about the episode last week, I’m not going to be that in-depth this week. Sorry about that, but I don’t feel like I have the energy to do the in-depth talking that I did last week.

First, this episode straight up has Ogami (I’m going to switch to calling him that so that I don’t have to constantly check if I’m spelling his first name correctly) confirm that he enjoys studying because he finds it to be fun. Yay! :]

As to be expected with the post-credits scene last week, the focus of this episode was on Ogami trying to befriend Noren Mitsuoka. He tries directly asking her at school, but she shuts it down due to her dislike of men.

After school, Ogami decides to stop by a ramen place he frequented when he wasn’t shrunk for food…only to find out that Noren works there! It turns out that Noren actually has dreams of being a ramen shop owner (likely because it allows her to more easily mask her gender and have males treat her as normal). This episode also establishes why Noren dislikes men so much, and it’s an explanation that I believe makes sense for her. She also asks for him to keep the fact that she works at the ramen shop a secret from the school.

Unfortunately, she ends up getting kidnapped. Ogami is ultimately the one who saves her, even if he has to do some moves to prevent her from finding out that he’s the one who’s saving her. While it’s not established in this episode whether or not she’s managed to figure out that it was actually Ogami who saved her, the fact that she recognized his voice when he was rescuing her makes me think that she at least has her suspicions.

The fact that Ogami brought her back to her own house, and she woke up initially thinking that the events of the kidnapping were a dream before she looked down at her wrists and realized “nope, that was real” honestly feels like a realistic reaction.

Due to the opening theme being reserved for the end in Episode 1, I didn’t get to hear the ending theme last week. With this week’s episode including the ending theme, however, I can finally provide my thoughts on it. It’s a fun song. I believe it’s good enough to serve its purpose as a theme song. I just don’t see myself actively going out to look for this song. It didn’t really hook me like ATTITUDE did. That’s absolutely not a fault with the song. It’s more likely that my music taste and this song don’t completely line up. And that’s completely okay.

The third episode is where I’m going to decide whether or not to continue following this series. I enjoyed both last week’s and this week’s episode, and I hope that trend continues next week.
