Always a Catch! Episode 7 – “The Fists of the One That Got Away”

Having two simulcasts to watch each day is crazy, because what do you mean that after this week’s simulcast episode of the other series that I watch on Wednesdays having such a serious ending I suddenly have to turn around and watch this series? I literally put off watching this episode for a while because I needed the ending of that other episode to sink in! Anyway, here’s your regularly scheduled Always a Catch! writeup.

For the recap section of the episode, instead of recapping the events of the previous episode, we get to learn more about what the “hair accessory” in Mimi’s hair is like. It’s one of those things that you put on your fingers to prevent them from getting too hurt when you punch, and wearing it makes the Anovazzi martial arts techniques stronger! That’s cool!

Anyway, Mimi has to leave her home to go back to Rubini. On the way back, however, Mimi decides to check in on the people from Navarro village that she helped out before. After finding out that they got in contact with someone who could help but still hadn’t found who they were looking for, however, Mimi decides to step in and help.

I will say that the bandits make a reappearance, though I’ll leave the extent of their actions on the down low until a later paragraph. And when Mimi and the members of the village can’t get in the normal way, Mimi chooses to sneak in and do the searching her way.

She does find who the village is looking for, though the way they described her situation isn’t accurate to the situation that she’s currently in. I feel like that’s the most that I can say without completely spoiling what was built up across the episodes that included this plot point.

However, the bandits (with their big boss) decide to try and steal some of the crops that are grown here (they smell great when blooming but like shit once bloomed, though I don’t know enough about agriculture to try and ID it myself). Once backup from Rubini arrives, Mimi takes down two of the bandits.

Renato is also there, and he ends up replicating one of the Anovazzi martial arts techniques that Mimi had shown him prior to leaving, even if he seems to have hurt his hand while doing so. I don’t care if the previous two episodes suggested that “The One That Got Away” is supposed to refer to Mimi now, I don’t have any complaints with the title of this episode because Renato had a part in what the title’s talking about somehow. That’s a very similar sentiment I have with next week’s episode.

While I enjoyed this week’s episode, it feels like it only exists to tie up a lose end that viewers would be likely to call out as being left unaddressed if they didn’t. Not that I’m mad about this, but what was happening in this episode wasn’t really what kept me hooked on Always a Catch! in the first place.

That’s not a huge issue, though, considering next week’s episode. I’m so excited to see it, especially since it feels like it’s returning to the sort of thing that hooked me: the relationship between Mimi and Renato!

…huh. Thought I’d have a bit more than that to talk about. Maybe next week is when I finally get into the groove?
