Since this is the first post that I’m making in June, I’d just like to say happy Pride month! I know this isn’t really something that would apply to this title, but literally I can’t determine whether or not any of my other simulcasts would be considered as more fitting, plus I think the closer to the start of the month that I make this post, the better. Anyway, time to actually get down into the details of this episode.
Basically this entire episode revolves around Mimi preparing for the ball where her engagement to Renato (as well as Aida’s engagement to Placido, presumably) is going to be officially announced, though it seems that the fact that the two are even engaged is now traveling around as news more properly in the capital.
Both engagements have their blessings from the king and queen, but it also involves Mimi needing to learn to be more ladylike, including having her learn what perfume to use and how to properly dance at a ball, including wearing high heels for the dance. I’ve never worn high heels before, so I cannot speak as to whether or not they are the bane of a woman’s existence. And I’m literally AFAB!
Mimi and Aida also visit the queen for a girls’ hangout, which also involves playing old maid, showing us that Mimi is unable to hold a poker face. Makes sense, as occasionally she speaks her mind.
Also, during the training, Mimi does sneak off to Rosalia’s place using “picking perfume” as an excuse…but like Rosalia does provide perfume, so I guess it wasn’t actually an excuse after all? Maybe more of an unintended effect of choosing to go there, or maybe to give the story more validity. There’s also growth here involving Mimi helping that village and their people here.
Oh yeah, we also get that bastard Ireneo reappearing. Boo! I prefer it when he’s not here! While we do get developments about him, I don’t believe they’re enough for me to change my opinion on him yet.
Of course, there’s also something set up at the end of the episode to suggest that this ball is going to be more complicated than it initially looks to be. Hm.
According to My Anime List, Always a Catch! only has 12 episodes. If they play their cards right, I think we can get to a satisfying conclusion for this (whether it’s the cour or the anime as a whole) within the remaining two episodes. I have my doubts, though.
Always a Catch!, to me, had a strong start but is currently struggling to keep me entertained through to the end. Maybe the next episode will change that, considering its title. Honestly, I’m starting to feel the same way that I did with A Journey Through Another World: Raising Kids While Adventuring as I was winding down its run, and I’d hate for Always a Catch! to become a second A Journey Through Another World: Raising Kids While Adventuring for my simulcast writeup history.
